No Rest for the Weary (a.k.a. Mommy and Daddy)

Story told by: Lainey

As soon as Mommy and Daddy got back from their trip, we got right back into the swing of things!

We had fun building a fort one morning.

Peekaboo! (This lasted for about five minutes, and then Henry destroyed it. Mommy helped me rebuild it, and banned Henry to the other side of the room.)

We have early mornings around this house. Mommy tries to tell us that we don’t have to wake up early, but since we wouldn’t want her to have too much time to herself, we drag our exhausted selves out of bed and allow her to make us breakfast.

Brody is getting into everything!

He’s also not napping very well because of his ear infection, so he takes the afternoon shift in order to make sure Mommy and Daddy don’t get a single moment to themselves. (It’s a team effort, so I’m grateful my siblings are 100% in it to win it.)

Brody is big enough to take a bath with us now! I love giving Brody toys to play with, and Henry loves waterboarding him.

On one of my first days back to preschool, we had a veterinarian visiting us. He asked us to bring a stuffed animal in so he could help us nurse it back to health. I chose the largest stuffed animal I own.

Mommy walked into the room one day and found me reading with Brody. Not to brag, but I’m pretty good at this big sister stuff.

We love getting together with friends. Willa came over recently, and we all dressed up like princesses.

Henry was especially dazzling as Belle.

We’ve had some days with temperatures in the 50s, so we made sure to get outside to enjoy it! Henry loved telling me where to take him in his truck. “Take me that way!”

We LOVE picnics, so it was fun to have our first picnic of the year (and a bus sighting was an added bonus).

We went to see the Cougar women basketball team play their last home game today. We wore our Cougar capes to cheer them on.

Unfortunately the Cougs lost in the last seconds of the game, but we still found ways to entertain ourselves (and to keep Mommy and Daddy from watching too much of the game).

After a fun family day of Cougar basketball and a trip to Costco, we came home for a family night that involved eating pizza and watching “The Good Dinosaur.”

A quick silly picture before we started the movie. What a refreshing and fun Saturday together!

Happy 2nd Birthday to Me!

Story told by: Henry

Today was my second birthday!

It started with my favorite breakfast of eggs and turkey sausage!

I had lots of silly faces for Mommy.

The fork was slowing me down, so I opted for the shove-it-in method.

After breakfast, I got in some early-morning coloring.

I was very excited to get to wear my train shirt again.

We went to the doctor to get my two-year checkup, and after that, Mommy got a coffee while I got a sucker. Yum!

We were too early to pick Lainey up from preschool, so Mommy told me that we could park in the preschool parking lot and go on a walk until it was time to get Lainey. Brody fell asleep in the car on the way there, though, and since he isn’t napping for much longer than 20 or 30 minutes at home, Mommy didn’t want to wake him up. So instead, we let Brody sleep in the car, while Mommy and I ran all over the parking lot.

I had my favorite meal for dinner – pizza!

Then it was time for cupcakes. I’ve been waiting for this all day!

And then I dug into my cupcake in the best way possible.

Time for presents! I didn’t need any help remembering how to open them.

Then Lainey had a very special present for me, and she couldn’t wait for me to open it!

She bought me a book with her AWANA bucks at the AWANA store in December. It was all her idea. Thank you so much, Lainey!

T-Ball set from Grandma and Grandpa!

More superhero books!

Then I opened my present from Gma and Gpa. A TRAIN!!!

I tried to immediately tear into it, but Daddy said we’d have to wait until this weekend when we could put it together. Thanks Gma and Gpa! I love it!

Then Daddy brought up my final gift! A truck from Grandma and Grandpa (that Daddy spent 2 1/2 hours putting together last night)!

I love it!! Thank you Grandma and Grandpa!

I spent the rest of the evening playing with my new toys.

And then just in case anyone had any doubt as to my age, I threw an epic temper tantrum to end the night.

I’m officially two years old! Happy Birthday to me!

Two-Year Checkup/Nine-Month Checkup

Story told by: Henry

Brody and I had a combined checkup today!

I was excited to get to stand on the scale like a big boy!

I read my book for about 30 seconds, and spent the rest of the appointment trying to run Brody over with the stroller.

I had some good laughs with Dr. Mike. Here are my stats:

Height – 2 feet, 11.25 inches (75th percentile) (Lainey was the same height)

Weight – 35.1 pounds (100th percentile) (Lainey was 29 pounds, 7 ounces)

Dr. Mike said that even though my weight is a little out of proportion with my height, he’s not worried because he feels very little body fat on me. He said I am SOLID, and ready to report for my linebacker position.

In spite of the ear infection Brody has had since the beginning of January, Mommy got some smiles out of him.

This is Brody’s latest and greatest trick! Getting down is another story, though.

Here are Brody’s stats…

Height: 30 inches (95th percentile) (Same as Henry, and Lainey was 29 1/2 inches)

Weight: 26 pounds, 14 ounces (100th percentile) (Henry was 23 pounds, and Lainey was 20 pounds, 8 ounces)

Head Circumference: 19.25 inches (100th percentile) (Henry was 18 3/4 inches and Lainey was 19 inches)

There is definitely lots of Brody to love!

His consult to determine a surgery date for tubes with the ENT specialist is on Monday. Mommy is very ready for Brody to feel better and to sleep!

Cancun – Tulum and Valentine’s Day

Story told by: Mommy

After dancing into the wee hours of the morning, we woke up early to head to the Mayan ruins in Tulum. Thank goodness for an hour-long bus ride so we could get a little more sleep.

We had a tour guide who taught us the fascinating history of this place. We loved it!

Giant lizards!

Lindsay and Anjie joined us for the trip.

The Mayans sure knew how to choose prime real estate for their temples.

After we got back that afternoon, we met up with our friends for some pool time…

…and a delicious dinner at the Asian cuisine restaurant.

On Valentine’s Day we woke up to an incredible sunrise.

We went to the spa for a wonderful couple’s massage.

The spa was located out on the golf course of the resort.

Then back to the pool!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Some of the wedding crew! We didn’t know them before we arrived, but we quickly became friends!

At the end of the day, we snuck away for a special Valentine’s dinner at the Mayan restaurant on the golf course. Delicious!

After dinner, we met up with friends again for a drink and to say goodbye. Matt and Courtney held on tight to keep us from leaving, but it had to end at some point. We had to wake up three hours after this picture to catch an early flight home, but it was worth it for an amazing trip. We definitely missed our kids, but it was such a treat to get some refreshing time as a couple while celebrating the marriage of two of our closest friends.

Cancun – Wedding Day!

Story told by: Mommy

We woke up on the day of the wedding to perfect weather, and immediately headed down to the pool.

Lindsay and I went to cheer on Kylan while he rode the wave machine.

As it neared wedding time, we went to help Courtney get ready.

She was stunning!

Couldn’t ask for a better venue!

Their vows were very special.

Wedding is over. Time to party!

Just a fraction of the crew that joined us on the dance floor for hours.

After the dancing at the reception, Matt and Courtney moved the dancing to the resort club.

Such a fun night celebrating our amazing friends. I danced so hard that I did some damage to my foot, but it was worth it!

Cancun – Travel Day and First Full Day

Story told by: Mommy

We recently had an amazing kid-free trip to Cancun, Mexico to celebrate Matt and Courtney’s wedding! (ONE MILLION thanks to Kylan’s parents for watching the kids while we were gone.)

Turns out the flying without kids is AMAZING. You can travel with ONE bag! We constantly felt like we were forgetting something (like diapers, wipes, bottles, car seats, strollers, etc.). Then you get on the plane, sleep, eat, and you’re there. That’s it.

When we arrived in Cancun, my bag ended up in another airline’s office (not even in another baggage claim). Weird. Due to the language barrier, we couldn’t figure out where we were going, but it involved trekking through the jungle, dodging traffic, and going into some shady parts of the airport. After a two-hour delay at the airport, we found my bag and made it to the resort!

We got there around 8 pm., and immediately had a delicious dinner, and a fun night with friends.

The lovebirds!

We also made some new Canadian friends.

On Thursday morning, we woke up at 9 a.m. and SIPPED (not chugged or guzzled) HOT (not cold or lukewarm) coffee in bed.

For the rest of the day, there was lots of relaxing and time to enjoy the beautiful weather.

College friends!

We had a brief (but beautiful rain shower that afternoon), but that’s the only rain we had the entire trip.

We went to a Brazilian restaurant at the resort, and our waiter was hilarious. He requested that we take this picture.

The resort was all-inclusive, which means it was fun to try lots of different drinks!

A Bob Marley drink!

A welcome reception for all of the wedding guests happened on Thursday night.

Love this girl.

Valentine’s Day Celebration

Story told by: Lainey

We’re going to be spending some time with Na Na and Ba Ba next weekend (I can’t wait!), so we had our traditional Valentine’s Day dinner tonight.

Mommy made her heart-shaped meatloaf.

She also added in pink mashed potatoes and corn. (Of course I didn’t want to eat a single bite of it, but it sure looked neat.)

The decorated table!

Time to eat!

While Mommy was making her Shirley Temple, she spilled a little cherry juice on the table cloth. I was quite disturbed by this, and nicely told Mommy that she had ruined the Valentine’s Day dinner.

After a moment of pouting, Mommy assured me that the party could still go on.

After patiently waiting for everyone to finish eating, it was finally time to open presents!

Henry was really excited about his Sesame Street magazine.

And a magic Thomas the Train marker book.

I was happy to get a Contigo water bottle just like Henry’s water bottle!

We also opened treats from Grandma, Grandpa, Gma, and Gpa. We have some great candy-eating days in our future!

Some fun gummies from Grandma and Grandpa!

Daddy got some Rwandan coffee from Mommy. He can’t wait to try it!

Next it was Brody’s turn to open his present.

He was mostly interested in eating it, though.

Brody got two new bibs, which he also wanted to eat. At least he put them right to use!

Before it was bedtime, Henry and I got to have a few pieces of candy, and play with some new toys. Happy (early) Valentine’s Day everyone!
