My One-Year Checkup

Story told by: Henry

I had my one-year checkup today!

As always, checking myself out in the mirror was quite entertaining!

I see you.

We took my measurements, and no surprise…I’m a big boy!

Height: 31 inches (75th percentile) (Lainey was 31 1/2 inches.)

Weight: 26 pounds, 11 ounces (98th percentile) (Lainey was 21 pounds, 11 ounces.)

Head Circumference: 19 1/4 inches (98th percentile) (Lainey was the same.)

Dr. Mike says I’m a healthy boy! I’m doing lots of babbling, and saying “Mama and Dada,” but I’m not directing those words at my parents yet. He says that I should start directly naming things very soon.

I had to get some shots at the end of my checkup, and I handled them like a champ. See you in three months for my 15-month checkup!

My First Birthday Party – The Main Event

Story told by: Henry

Once my crew members arrived to my party, the real fun started!

Mommy and Daddy woke me up just in time to greet my crew.

I had a special shirt made just for my party!

The hammering station was a big hit!

My favorite part of the hammering station was eating the blocks of green foam. I snuck in a few delicious bites when Mommy wasn’t looking.

Angie tried to show me how to hammer, but I wasn’t buying it.

In order to be productive, crew members need to be well-nourished, so they dug in to the food right away.

Hugs with Angie.

It was fun to get lots of attention from Kym and Angie!

Angie and Lainey were quite goofy together.

Nora and Lucy were some fashionable construction workers!

There was so much going on that I couldn’t stay in one spot for long. I had to oversee the work being done.

After a while it was time for cake! I enjoyed everyone singing to me, but I was more focused on the delicious food coming my way.

I quickly gobbled up a piece of cake!

While I ate my cake, everyone else ate their dirt cups.

All gone!

After dessert it was time to open presents!

Mommy and Daddy had to give me a hand.

Lainey also helped quite a bit. I really just enjoyed chewing on everything.

After we emptied out the wheelbarrow, I found the balloons. These things are amazing!

Right before the end of the party (and the start of my nap), we got a family picture. Thank you so much to everyone who came to make my first birthday party very special. I sure feel loved!

My First Birthday Party – Decorations

Story told by: Henry

I had my first birthday party with my friends today! It was a construction-themed party, which was lots of fun. This post is filled with the party decorations.

We had fun tape on the door that read “Birthday Zone.”

This sign welcomed each crew member to my construction site.

Daddy worked hard on creating a timeline of my first 12 months. He made an awesome crane and wrecking ball!

Mommy made paint brushes with wet paint. (The idea might have looked a little easier on Pinterest. While some of the paint brushes stood up perfectly, others bent in half. Oh well, it’s the thought that counts.)

Instead of cupcakes, everyone received a yummy cup of dirt.

And I had a delicious cake all to myself!

As each crew member arrived, they were given a hard hat and an apron. Safety first!

Lainey helped to model the construction attire while I took my nap before the party.

This was the building zone filled with legos and blocks.

Crew members could practice their hammering skills at this station.

There was also a blueprint station where everyone could perfect their coloring skills.

There was a very important work order to follow.

Mommy insisted on putting this sign up by the bathroom. I was secretly hoping this party would give me full access to the toilet, but she spoiled my fun.

On their way out, the crew members received a treat for all of their hard work.

My First Birthday

Story told by: Henry

Today was the best birthday I’ve ever had!

I was awakened by my crazy family with a birthday song.

Henry's First Birthday

After breakfast, we left for story time at the library. If Mommy isn’t paying attention, I love to pull every book off of the shelves.

Henry's First Birthday

Lainey loves sitting right up front while Ms. Kathleen reads a book.

Henry's First Birthday

I like to play with the outlets.

Henry's First Birthday

We absolutely love our time with Ms. Kathleen. She’s fantastic!

Henry's First Birthday

After story time, we went to the park. I loved the swings!

Henry's First Birthday

Lainey had fun on the big slide! The park was pretty muddy and wet, so we didn’t stay for too long. Our short time there was fun, though!

Henry's First Birthday

Once we got home, I took a long nap. By the time I woke up, it was almost time for dinner. I got to eat macaroni and cheese for the first time. Lainey has been talking about this how good this stuff is, and now I believe her!

Henry's First Birthday

Mommy made cream cheese chocolate cupcakes for my birthday! We started with a candle in the cupcake while everyone sang to me. I thought this was pretty funny.

Making a wish before I blew out my candle!

Henry's First Birthday

At first I was a little confused about what to do with this thing.

Henry's First Birthday

Daddy is really good at eating, so he was trying to show me how to eat a cupcake.

Henry's First Birthday

Once I figured out how to take a bite of the cupcake, I devoured it in three massive bites.

Mommy and Daddy found this absolutely hilarious. I’m amazed I didn’t choke.

Henry's First Birthday

Wow. My first time eating a cupcake was amazing (and short). Hopefully they give me another one soon!

After dessert, it was time for presents! I got a neat water table from Grandma and Grandpa that I can’t wait to use this summer!

I was a little confused about what to do with the paper covering my presents, so Lainey helped me out.

Once Lainey opened this ferry boat from Na Na and Ba Ba, I was thrilled. A box to chew on! My favorite!

I love Lainey’s Gloworm, so I was thrilled to get my own.

Lainey put some of my books to use right away. I can’t wait to read them with her!

Uncle Matt and Aunt Elisa got me this amazing book! Did you notice that it has my face and name on it?! I’m famous!

Henry's First Birthday

After presents and a bath, it was time for my day to come to an end. Mommy and Daddy can’t believe that this last year went by so quickly! Here’s to another great year!

My Cake Smash

Story told by: Henry

In honor of my first birthday, I had pictures taken while smashing/eating cake. It was perfect!

I could sure get used to photo sessions like this!

Valentine’s Day, 2015

Story told by: Lainey

Happy Valentine’s Day! We had such a wonderful day!

Valentine's Day, 2014

We started out the morning by making red velvet pancakes!

Valentine's Day, 2014

Valentine's Day, 2014

Henry was lots of help in the kitchen.

Every good breakfast tastes best when there’s plenty of dancing while preparing it.

Valentine's Day, 2014

It was a delicious breakfast!

Valentine's Day, 2014

I felt like we were eating cake for breakfast, and I loved it!

After breakfast, we went to swimming lessons.

My teacher says I’m a fish in the water. I spend most of my time under water.

I’m getting pretty good at floating on my back.

Henry also loves the water. His teacher says he’s a natural swimmer!

He loves splashing in the water with daddy.

He loves playing with toys in the pool.

Henry also loves going under water and coming up with a big splash!

Valentine's Day, 2014

After swimming, I put on my special Valentine’s Day dress and got ready to go on a special date with Daddy.

Valentine's Day, 2014

I’ve been excited about this for days!

Valentine's Day, 2014

Valentine's Day, 2014

Valentine's Day, 2014

Daddy always has lots of kisses for me.

Valentine's Day, 2014

Daddy took me to Cougar Country, and I devoured my chicken fingers and french fries.

Valentine's Day, 2014

Then I got ice cream, which was my favorite part of lunch!

Valentine's Day, 2014

I also liked the toy that came with the meal. Who wouldn’t love a hot dog with hands and feet?!

Valentine's Day, 2014

I was quite excited to listen to music with Daddy in the car. He’s sure one great daddy!

Valentine's Day, 2014

While Daddy and I were on our date, Henry went home with Mommy to help her make a raspberry cheesecake pie. He indulged in a few of the raspberries.

Valentine's Day, 2014

When I got home, I couldn’t wait to show Mommy the flower that Daddy bought for me. (We also surprised Mommy with her own bouquet of flowers.)

Valentine's Day, 2014

Mommy and I have been busy over the last couple of weeks making decorations for Valentine’s Day.

Valentine's Day, 2014

I especially had fun making these coffee filter sun catchers!

Valentine's Day, 2014

A cute picture of Mommy and Daddy!

Valentine's Day, 2014

And as I like to say, Mommy’s belly is getting “bigger, bigger, bigger.” My baby brother will be here in just about eleven weeks!

Valentine's Day, 2014

After our naps, Mommy started working on our annual Valentine’s Day dinner. She made the delicious heart-shaped meatloaf!

Valentine's Day, 2014

We also had pink mashed potatoes and salad! So yummy! Mommy also made Shirley Temple drinks, but I didn’t like the fuzz (the fizz). I kept asking Mommy to get rid of the fuzz, so she finally gave me my milk. Maybe next year!

Valentine's Day, 2014

Our festive table! This is Henry’s first Valentine’s Day, so he was quite amazed at the decorations, and kept trying to take it all off of the table before dinner.

Valentine's Day, 2014

After dinner, we opened presents. I’ve been waiting for this moment for weeks! Grandma and Grandpa sent a great goodie bag, which included Minnie Mouse! Thank you!

Valentine's Day, 2014

Henry’s goodie bag included Mickey Mouse and a car. He obviously loved his toys because his look says, “Don’t touch my stuff. Or else.”

Valentine's Day, 2014

Henry’s favorite thing to do with all of the toys and cards was to chew on them.

Valentine's Day, 2014

Na Na and Ba Ba sent a cute book, and we can’t wait to read it! Thank you!

Valentine's Day, 2014

Great Grandma and Great Grandpa sent several gifts, one of which was this “Frozen” movie theater. Thank you! You were smart to know that anything related to “Frozen” is bound to be a hit!

Valentine's Day, 2014

And they sent Henry some toys for the bathtub. The box was his favorite!

Valentine's Day, 2014

We barely managed to get the toys out of the box before they went straight in his mouth. This kid takes his chewing very seriously.

Valentine's Day, 2014

The toys finally made it to the bathtub where they helped to add to the fun of our bubble bath!

Valentine's Day, 2014

We ended our fun-filled day with the cheesecake that Mommy and Henry made. Such a delicious treat! I hope that you all had as great of a Valentine’s Day as us. Can’t wait to share this day with a new baby brother next year!

My First Haircut

Story told by: Henry

My hair was getting a little shaggy, so I got my first haircut today! (Not to brag or anything, but Lainey is almost three years old and she hasn’t had a haircut yet. I beat her by at least two years!)

The “before” shot.

I was excited to get started!

Daddy has a steady hand, so we just leaned over the sink and got to work.

Most of the hair came off the back of my head, and a tiny bit came off the front.

The “after” shot. It really didn’t end up being much hair at all…just enough to make me look like one handsome little guy.

Still cute as can be!

Daddy and I celebrated the end of this momentous occasion with a good book. Thanks, Daddy!
