Mommy and Daddy thought it would be fun to have the first ever Home Group Olympics in Colton, Washington. So, their church Home Group challenged two other Home Groups to some fun games.
Here I am just chillin’ in my chair while we wait for everyone to arrive.
Daddy hands out batons to the teams…a twirly flower for “The Spinners,” a fly swatter for “The Swatters,” and a bug catcher for “The Entomologists.”
Daddy and I hang out in the shade while the teams sign their members up for the events. They didn’t know what the events involved before they signed up. They were signing up for mysterious events like, “The Iron Stomach,” “Lady Gaga,” “Fancy Footwork,” “Feeling Deflated?” and many more!
And of course we can’t have Home Group Olympics without opening ceremonies. We had a parade down the middle of the street while the Olympic theme music blared from the car.
Once we arrived at the park, Daddy explained the events for which everyone had signed up.
While he did that, I helped to put out the equipment.
There were seventeen events! It was a relay, where as soon as one person was done with their event, they ran the baton back to their team, and the next person went. Mommy tried to capture all of the events, but things got a little crazy. It started out with stomping on balloons tied to each other’s ankles.
There was a grapevine around the tree.
Next you had to cover a team member’s face in shaving cream and try to get five cheetos to stick by throwing them from a distance.
There were puzzles to put together without first seeing a picture of the puzzle.
Each team had to open a frozen t-shirt and put it on. However, it appears that Mommy and Daddy got them a little too wet, folded them up a little too much, and froze them for much too long. They were solid blocks of ice.
So, everyone resorted to their own methods to get them open. Nikki used the hose.
Kristy beat her shirt against a wall.
And while the girls were going crazy, Derrick methodically opened up his t-shirt.
He got it on!
There was hula-hooping.
Another event involved blowing up a beach ball and walking with it between your legs.
One of the toughest events was eating sardines covered in Louisiana hot sauce, and then drinking pop from a baby bottle.
There was an egg toss.
People had to dress up and loudly sing a song.
There was crab walking…
…and javelin throwing.
Teams had to cover a balloon in shaving cream and shave it.
There was a lava walk where you had to use two wooden boards to walk down and around the tree. You couldn’t touch the grass with your feet.
Derrick was smart and tied the boards to his shoes with his shoelaces.
The final event was a pyramid. The Entomologists were done first!
Followed by The Swatters!
And finally The Spinners!
When we got home, we had our closing ceremonies where Daddy gave each team captain their medal (gold, silver, or bronze).
Some people might prefer to call the medals steel wool, but not us. They’re Olympic medals!
After the ceremonies were done, we had a delicious BBQ!
This was so much fun! I can’t wait to do it again next year!
